The hack was claimed by users Destroyer2009 and R4ndom through automated messages posted by Genburten's account after it was compromised. Users quickly commented on the hypothetical situation on if the hack was not claimed by those supposedly involved.
This exploit raised concerns on the security of playing Apex Legends by many different accounts. At this time, the source of the exploit was thought to be through Apex Legend's itself or through the game's Anti-Cheat. Apex Legends uses Easy Anti-Cheat (EAC), a popular Anti-cheat used in a variety of multiplayer games to detect and prevent cheaters from playing. EAC is used in games such as Fortnite, Dead by Daylight and Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege.
EAC put out a statement on the situation on Mar 18 at 6:58. According to EAC, the RCE exploit not from a vulnerability within their software.
